Sportello — Posting Ball Box

Post the ball in, and watch it find its way back.

Sportello is a small house with a hole in the roof and a door at the front. The child posts a ball through the top; it rolls down the gently tilted floor and out the door into the tray, ready to be posted again. The ball disappears, then returns — one of a baby's earliest lessons that gone is not forgotten.

It is quietly self-correcting: the sloped floor returns every ball on its own, so the sequence can be repeated without help. Posting a ball also asks for a deliberate open hand — real grasp-and-release practice for small fingers.
